Happy Valentine's Day 2015!

Where did the last month go?! If you're ever wondering where I've disappeared to, since I don't update Hummingbird Miniatures or my other blog with the frequency I used to, it's probably because I am busy over at Tall Tales Productions, creating miniature model sets and working towards a stop-motion short film. You can keep up with this here at the blog, or here at the Facebook page.

So... here at Hummingbird Miniatures I have been creating cakes, cakes, cakes! I have made a cute new range of detailed black forest (gateaux) cakes, to my own design and also started creating a whole new range of miniature birthday cakes with candles.

Here's a glimpse into my workspace below. One inch scale black forest cakes, made by myself with huge attention to detail out of polymer clay. These miniature cakes have two kinds of cherries (dark and also maraschino (glacé) cherries on top, which are lighter and brighter, and there's cream inside the cake and chocolate frosting on the top. So they were a lot of work and will be available at the online Hummingbird Miniatures shop just as soon as we re-open. Email me if you're interested in reserving one!

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day all! x x x x

Cherry Chocolate Cake Prep Boards

I shared in-the-making photos of these Cherry Chocolate Cake prep boards recently (here) and now you can see them all nicely finished off.

The cake's pretty realistic-looking up close - quite hard to photograph it, but those who acquire one will see what I mean.

The wooden prep boards were stained, painted, sanded and waxed by me, and then they are decorated with pink striped tea towels, the cakes, cherries, a cherry tag, 3 slices of cake (one with a bite taken out of it) and finally my signature dotty spoon with frosting on it.

An original handmade Hummingbird Miniatures piece! I will make one or two available at my online shop tomorrow. As usual feel free to email me to request a reserve. Thanks! :)

Easter Cake and Easter Chocolate

Good afternoon miniature community! Hope you enjoyed the photos of my Easter scene in yesterday's post. :) It was such a nice sunny day here in Oxfordshire, England and I had brilliant light with which to take my photos. The funny thing is I really think they look more like a nursery than a patisserie. Must be because my sister's having a baby and I've got all things baby on the brain! I'll be doing a whole baby shower range in the near future...

Anyway, here's some Easter chocolate and my original Daffodil Easter Cake created especially for Easter 2012. All of the below are currently available at my online store.

Don't forget to enter the COMPETITION on this blog (enter here) for a chance to win a free original Hummingbird miniature. It closes this weekend so hurry!

Snowball Truffles

Little tiny Snowball Truffles on a tiny lacy white stand for Christmas 2011. Find this OOAK one inch scale miniature at my online store here, but bear in mind I am currently closed (well on hold!) for the next 10 days or so whilst I move back to the UK from Los Angeles. You can still have it in time for Christmas if you're fast on the mouse and keyboard when the shop's back to normal though!

In a Chocolate kinda Mood...

Yep... the chocolate fridge compartment is the last refuge of the single gal... or the girl whose family just flew all the way back to Blighty...! :(
My mum and brother visited for 10 days and flew back last night so naturally my mood has called for chain tea-drinking and a lot of chocolate.

And speaking of... I've lowered the price of my Heart shaped boxes of Chocolates here as I'd rather clear the stock and make room for other things. (I made them Valentines 2011 after all).

Oh, and before I forget, the Pixie Dust competition is still open (for another 5 days) so if you're a Harry Potter / fantasy / fairytale fan then hop on over and join in. Enter here. Good luck!

Baking for the 4th!

With Independence Day on the way I've made some fun 4th of July cakes and patisserie chocolates. I only made 3 Limited Edition Independence Day cakes and 1 has already sold, so click here if you're keen not to miss out! There are also some chocolate Statues of Liberty and the photos don't really show it but the bases they're on are really pretty glitter card stock. Great for a fancy patisserie display and after all she's French-made!

In case you missed it, my 4th of July BBQ and picnic foods post is here.
Everything is one inch (1:12) scale and handmade by me from polymer clay.

Gold Chocolate Easter Bunny

I'm going to start blogging about Easter for the next few days (I'm an early bird!)
In the UK you know Easter is looming when you start to see the classic Lindt Chocolate Gold Bunny appear on the supermarket shelves. I love Lindt, but I am trying to forsake chocolate for clay at the moment (especially since I ate an entire box of Girl Scout cookies yesterday)...

Here is my dollhouse miniature version of the Lindt Gold Chocolate Bunny in 1:12 (one inch) scale and if you scroll right past my bunny you'll see a photo of the real thing!

Already listed on my store. I've only made one and unsure whether or not to make more. I suppose I'll just see if it's popular or not. :)
