A Christmas Feature

It's just 2 days until Christmas...............................!

I am so thrilled to be featured in (and on the cover of) one of my all-time favourite miniature magazines! This December my Hummingbird Miniatures are featured in 'Dolls House & Miniature Scene' magazine - a fantastic read published in the UK. You can buy your copy here.

So here's my roast turkey on a dinner table spread with Christmas crackers, candles and vegetables. It's on the magazine front cover and below you can see the other images included in the article - such as a Christmas cake and Nutcracker shop scene.

My online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop will be back at the end of Dec / start of Jan 2014... :)

Gingerbread Jewelry this Christmas

Gosh, it's Dec and I haven't updated this blog since Thanksgiving!! I've been soooo busy... so I'm sorry about that. :)

Anyway, I'm really excited to show you my new handmade jewelry (or jewellery UK English) which I created for Christmas this year. Despite there being other 'mini food jewelry artisans' out there, I don't think anyone else is doing miniature gingerbread house earrings as dangle earrings - so I feel like they're quite special and unique. I worked hard on creating a special and unique design too.
They are also extremely tiny (much smaller than they appear in the photos) - so they will be a talking point at the Christmas party I'm sure!

Handmade by myself in smaller than one inch scale - these little iced gems hang on surgical steel findings (in black because I felt that would look cooler than silver), and all of the candy on them was handmade entirely by myself. See gingerbread house pendants below as well.

Here's a 'making of' photo below... I did a few at a time and hardened them in my craft oven, then once cooled I attached the earring findings. Just a little varnish in places and they were ready!

Find them at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop and order ASAP to ensure you get them in time for Christmas gift-giving. They come in my pretty Hummingbird Miniatures packaging - so they're ready little stocking fillers!
** Please note that my Hummingbird Miniatures shop will close for 2 weeks (16th Dec 2013 - 1st Jan 2014) so that I can travel home to England for the holidays - get your sales in before that date! :) **

Little Potted Christmas Trees

They're finished and now available at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop as part of my new Christmas 2013 range - but it doesn't need to be Christmas to have them. They'll fit into any miniature scene as a pretty indoor or outdoor accessory.

One inch scale - but can be used in a half inch scale scene.

PS See them in the making in a previous post here...!

And, in case you missed it, I also listed some roast potatoes at my online shop (here) to accompany the miniature Thanksgiving / Christmas turkey.

Care for Christmas Cupcakes?

I hardly ever make miniature cupcakes as I find them so fiddly, but I've made some very cute ones for this Christmas, and hope you like them! They're one inch scale, have paper cases and different candies on top - all handmade by myself.

I will be making them available at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop tomorrow. I am selling them individually.

PS If you'd prefer to make your own cupcakes instead of buying one of my handmade cakes, then why not follow my cupcake tutorial and try it yourself?!

A Spoonful of Sugar...

Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down....!

I made these very tiny jars of old fashioned candy for Christmas. The jars were hand-blown (by my glassblower friend on the East Coast) and then I filled them with candy which I made myself (from polymer clay of course - I never use pre-made canes...!) Each candy is different - some have hearts, some have rainbow colours, some have Christmas trees or snowflakes etc. Then each jar was finished off with a silk ribbon and gold cap.
The photo above shows them sitting in a teaspoon - not a tablespoon!

There is only one of each. You can use them in your one inch scale (1:12) or even half inch scale (1:24) miniature scene as they're small enough. They measure only 9/16" (1.4 cm) in height.

In other news....
There is a competition currently running at my other blog. Just follow the simple rules to enter and in 2 minutes you could be in with a chance of winning your chosen item (worth up to $200). Click over to the other blog and find out how. Good luck!

Dreaming of a Pink Christmas...

You may have noticed that much of my Christmas 2013 range has been pink in some way. It's because I was inspired by the Nutcracker Ballet and I may have become carried away! To complete the pinkish theme, here's a cute Christmas cake which is made with pink and yellow candy canes and decorated with little iced biscuits. All of the candy is handmade by me as I never buy pre-made canes.

I only made one of these Christmas cakes, so if you'd like to own it then click on over to my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop!

Featured...

Also, this cake was featured along with other Christmas miniatures I made this year, in the magazine 'Dolls House and Miniature Scene'. It's a fantastic magazine full of articles about miniature artisans discussing their work, projects and everything you need to know about miniatures really! I highly recommend buying a copy or, better yet - subscribing.
