The Forgotten Patisserie

Years ago, back in 2010 I think, I created a French patisserie. It was built solely to showcase the growing range of French patisserie cakes I had been making at the time, and was not built as a roombox for sale.

However, this patisserie was never shown here on my blog or even on my Facebook page, as was intended. It seems I completely forgot!

I was digging through my archives - looking for some photos of cakes which I promised to a magazine editor when I stumbled on them and realised they'd never been shown. So - just to remedy that and keep my blog up to date with all that I create, I have decided to upload them today!

This French patisserie, built in 2010 and filled with pretty packaging, cakes, religieuse pastries and eclairs all made by me is not to be confused with the modern London patisserie / cake shop from 2012 (here).

Incidentally, you can still find detailed handmade French pastries at my Etsy shop. See the chart showing all the different varieties of religieuse pastries.

And this is my modern London patisserie and cake shop which I made in 2012.

My Inspiration

Hi everyone!
Just got back from Cancun, Mexico today! Wow... hours and hours of traveling but so, so worth it. I had a wonderful time, it was so hot, I swam with sea turtles, snorkeled with colourful tropical fish in the Caribbean Sea, saw ancient Mayan temples, and stayed at the Ritz-Carlton (the hotel made a mistake and thus upgraded us from the Marriott hotel!! Lucky us).

So, I hope everyone else has had a good week. My shop is now back online and business has resumed as usual. :)

For fun, I thought you might like to see some of my photos of real food which I use for reference. I often just use them as inspiration rather than a basis to create an exact replica. Coming up with slightly different designs is more fun. Let me know what you think...
Hugs, Caroline xXx

Pastries from Paris

Yes, it's still all about Paris whilst we're in the month of lurve! I was actually going to pop over to Paris for my birthday (which is coming in 1.5 weeks!) but instead my boyfriend is taking me to Cancun, Mexico!
But anyway, I just love, love, love Ladurée pastries, especially the 'religieuse' pastries. For those of you that are not sure what this is, it's a pastry made of two "choux pastry" pieces filled with custard. They come in different flavours and are iced with different colours.
The name 'Religieuse' actually means 'nun', because the top pastry ball is supposed to represent the nun's head and the bottom one is her body. Interesting right?!

So I've listed 11 kinds of religieuses at my online shop with lots of flavours copied from Ladurée. I made them as detailed and as realistic as I could, no molds used of course, each one made by hand in 1:12 scale.

Which is your favorite flavor? Rose, blackcurrant, chocolate, strawberry, purple, caramel, pistachio, lilac, lemon, mint or orange?! :)

Oh, and stay tuned, competition give-away coming up soon...

My Workspace... Playing in the Patisserie

Preparing for Valentine's Day.... still! Argh! How can I be so behind? Well I am finally getting around to photographing my new range first thing tomorrow... so today I was simply finishing off my patisserie for it. I made several Ladurée boxes for the shelves, painted some little ceramic plates (which are part of my new POP ART Collection) and I re-painted the walls a better shade of pink. :) Job done.

Take a look at some of my snaps of my patisserie-in-progress, Ladurée packaging and my new tall layered Valentine's Cakes which will soon be available in store.

My Workspace... Playing with Colour

Preparing for Valentine's Day, and well it just had to be French didn't it?! With Paris being the city of love (not sure if it is since the only time I was there I was 9 years old, despite being in and out of France dozens of time since then) but I love the romance of the architecture, fashion and food. So... most of my Valentine's Range for 2012 fits nicely into my 'Fabulously French' Range too.

Here's a glimpse into my workspace... been making tonnes of 'religieuse' (famous French pastry) in the Ladurée style. Invented some of my own colours for them but they're mostly the same as you'd find in Ladurée. Each one takes me ages to make as I am extremely attentive to detail and have spent years practicing to get them as close to the originals as possible.

Take a look at the colourful happenings over at my other blog too and check back here (and my online store) very soon as I launch my new Valentine's Range for 2012. :)tu

Can you believe Hallowe'en has been all over the shelves of 'Michael's Arts and Crafts' and 'Rite Aid' since the end of July?! I wonder if it's like that in the UK...? Anyone know?

Anyway I've always loved Hallowe'en and I started releasing items from my Hallowe'en 2011 Range early too. Here's some Ladurée themed (although entirely my own designs) French pastries. 'Religieuse' to be precise. (Pronounce it RELL - IDGE - UZ). Find them at my shop here

.... and don't forget to enter my COMPETITION over on my other blog for some magical, fantastical, original magic of your choosing. Enter here
