Hoppy Bunny Day!

Happy Easter everyone!

As you may have noticed, I continue to list new items (and the same old popular ones) at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop and put the odd Instagram update up and Facebook as well.

But as for this blog... gosh - where have I been?! Sorry to tell you I've neglected all who read this blog, and been busily working on exciting miniatures over here!!

What's the news?!

Well, we've had Pancake Day already this year, and I made pancakes, and even put a little time-lapse video of the process here on the YouTube channel! These pancakes *will* be listed at the shop soon, so huge apologies to those who've emailed and have been waiting patiently. I'll make sure there's a good discount coupon coming your way.

And, I also made a whole new range for Easter 2016, which I put up on the Etsy shop recently. Here they are! All new fluffy Easter bunnies, as well as new chicks. See a couple of 'work in progress' photos below as well.

I'll blog more often, I promise! x x x

Preparing for Christmas...

It's been 3 years since I made a gingerbread village! The last one was in 2012 and I made it for my Pixie Dust Miniatures brand, so the gingerbread houses were not exactly traditional, but were whimsical and colourful. You can see that village here.

Last year my very traditional gingerbread houses made it to the cover of The Dolls House Magazine, for their Christmas issue, which was fantastic. You can see the cover here.

This year is the first year I haven't been on the cover of a magazine's Christmas issue. That's mostly because of.... dun dun duuuuun... the tragedy written about here. ;)

So, this festive season Hummingbird Miniatures is back with a BAM, and we're starting with some gingerbread houses. They will be listed at the online Etsy shop here this week.

If you're looking for extremely detailed traditional German gingerbread houses (also known as lebkuchenhaus). in one inch scale and in all sorts of pretty colours, you can find it here! I made every part of them (made my own canes etc) and painstakingly assembled them over the past 2 weeks.

Please see photos of the process below and then scroll past them to see the final village! Enjoy! And don't forget to visit the shop this week to pick one up for yourself this Christmas! :)

My Workspace...

I haven't shared photos from my workspace in ages, have I?! Obviously you can see what I make over at my Caroline blog here (and the corresponding Facebook page), but here on Hummingbird Miniatures it's been a while.

I've just spent most of my day dealing with nasty boring forms I had to fill in, so now that that's over I'm unwinding with tea and a quick blog update...

These are photos of me making Mexican food from back in May. First I created a lime cane (this is not too difficult to do, but if you hate caning you can always buy a cane). I have made a lime tutorial but still finishing it off. Soon you'll be able to find it in the Tutorials section of my online Hummingbird Miniatures shop.

Then I made various vegetables including avocados and corn, which again will be available as tutorials here very soon!

I made fajitas / burritos (which will also be available as tutorials soon) and then found a fun way to display my miniature food by creating tiny wooden or faux granite food boards. I even made each tiny bowl, and filled some with sour cream, some with guacamole, some with salsa and some with cut up limes.

See completed Mexican food on Pinterest here. See more work-in-progress photos on Pinterest here!

Bye for now!

Corn, avocados, peppers and Chillies!

As you saw in my last post, I am all about Mexican food at the moment and have been creating it since the beginning of the month (Cinco de Mayo - 5th of May). I have been eating out in my favourite Mexican places in LA and cooking Mexican food at home (which I do every week anyway), and getting all sorts of inspiration for this new range!

Mexican cuisine includes a lot of vegetables and bright colours, so I started by creating vegetables in miniature before I made the dishes. Take a look at some of my photos below which show some 'work in progress' photos as well.

Shop for miniature Mexican foods at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop here.
