Holy Guacamole!

Man, I just love guacamole. I love it to the extent that as a 19 year old student at Royal Holloway, University of London, I'd skip dinner and treat myself to a tub of pre-made Sainsbury's guacamole instead. It was cheaper than buying ingredients to make dinner and I loved it!

Now that I live in Southern California I probably eat avocado daily and guacamole about 4 times a week, on average.

Anyway! Here's a blog post all about guacamole and avocados, to continue my scale miniature Mexican food season....!

There will be a tutorial about making miniature 1:12 scale avocados coming very soon to my online shop, so stay tuned for that. Also, there are photos below of my new avocado jewelry, which is also available at my online shop, and don't forget, I ship all over the world!

Chips and Dip

Continuing the miniature Mexican food theme....!

Here's some tiny salsa and tortilla chips for the weekend. I spent about a day testing different small batches of salsa by playing with different mediums, different translucencies, different amounts of tiny cut up 'tomato' until I got it just about how I wanted it. The chips (crisps) were made by rolling clay out as thin as humanly possible over sandpaper and peeling them off and then adding additional pigment. ;)

Yet more new Cakes

My last post (here) about miniature cakes seemed to go down very well as I have had many commissions for various birthday cakes in various colours since! I will be showing all kinds here on this blog as I make more in every colour and style you can dream up.

For now, here are two latest ones. A re-design on the classic Pink Birthday cake which I became so well known for 5 years ago. This customer asked for it to be as you see below (cut open, little drips in the frosting, pink and white striped candles). However, I don't think this is how I will start re-listing them at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop. I think I will make the new ones with rainbow candles as before. But please note how much SMALLER and refined my candles are!

Don't forget that you can email me for a commission, you can find my shop here, you can request wholesale prices and you can follow what's going on over at Hummingbird by liking the Facebook page here!

The Hummingbird has Landed

Hello everyone,
Yes I know... it's been absolutely ages since you heard from me and my online Hummingbird Miniatures shop remains closed at this time... sorry!

As you probably know, I had to close this shop (and other shop) for a few weeks whilst I had the messy move from NZ to UK to US with plenty of Embassy meetings, packing, flying and landing going on around this time. Well... the Hummingbird has landed!

So, please note that Hummingbird Miniatures is back in Los Angeles, California and will be re-opening in just a few more days (keep your eye on this blog, or the shop or on the Facebook page so you know when) and I'll be launching some fun new miniature food ranges, furniture, a free-to-enter competition and a new coupon to apologize for my absence!

As usual, feel free to email me if you have any questions!
Warmest wishes, Caroline

Tuned into Hummingbird's Channel yet?

No, I haven't disappeared! I've just been adjusting to my move to New Zealand these past 3 weeks. As many of you know, I will be here in NZ for the next 4.5 months (until Nov 2012), so all orders will be dispatched from the capitol city of New Zealand. ;) I am unsure how long it will take for my packages to reach Europe, the US and Canada... so to give people an added incentive to continue shopping with me I'll be lowering many of my prices across my shop. (Note - my shop WILL be re-opening verrrrrry soon!).

In the meantime, why not tune into my YouTube channel here, and catch up on any of the videos you may have missed?! I just got around to adding my Easter 2012 video today. You'll need sound for this one. :)

At my YouTube channel you'll find videos showing my miniature work and also tutorials where you can learn to make miniatures for yourself. More tutorials to come - I promise!

More videos.... find them at the YouTube channel...

And a tutorial to be found on my channel also...

Healthy Love of Jewelry

Want to express your healthy love of jewelry?

Unlike Marilyn Monroe's character in one of my favourite films - 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (1953), who famously sang that "diamonds are a girl's best friend"... I've always loved costume jewelry more than real jewels. Just as well probably!

Well these aren't diamonds, and they're not fake diamonds... they're carefully crafted handmade blushing grapefruits which are perfect for the summer.

I loved making these. (All done myself without the use of bought canes, naturally!)

More Miniature Food Jewelry

Have you seen the brand new Mini Food Jewelry items now listed at my online store?!

Here's a quick glimpse. People kept requesting Gingerbread Men so I now have two kinds of gingerbread men earrings, a gingerbread man ring and a gingerbread man pendant... so it proves I do listen to people's requests!
