New Bread Range Listed!

It was ages ago that I blogged about my new bread range ('in the making'), and finally I've had time to photograph it, write about it here and make it all available at my online Etsy shop here!

So, take a look at my handmade one inch scale (1:12) breads... from ciabatta, two kinds of baguettes, sourdough loaves and mini rolls, pumpernickel, olive bread and more...

Don't forget to follow this blog and also like the Facebook page in order to get updates and be able to comment / ask questions. :)

PS Tomorrow I'll share photos from the miniature Hummingbird Bakery...

Pastries, pastries, pastries!

If you check my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop you'll notice that this morning 9 different kinds of pastries have been added to the Bakery Section.

Everything has been handmade by myself without the use of molds, and in tiny 1:12 (one inch scale) with great care to realism and detail. Each one took me a long time to make!

There are...
Apricot danishes, croissants, cheese danishes, croissants decorated with icing, apple turnovers, french hearts, pain au chocolat, cinnamon swirls and pain au chocolat decorated with chocolate icing.

Take a look at the fun photos I took during the week, and if you'd like some then hop over to my shop and find them sold individually (just change the quantity for more, or you can mix and match) and purchase whilst they are introduced at a low price. *Note - the price will rise in a few days time. *

The Forgotten Patisserie

Years ago, back in 2010 I think, I created a French patisserie. It was built solely to showcase the growing range of French patisserie cakes I had been making at the time, and was not built as a roombox for sale.

However, this patisserie was never shown here on my blog or even on my Facebook page, as was intended. It seems I completely forgot!

I was digging through my archives - looking for some photos of cakes which I promised to a magazine editor when I stumbled on them and realised they'd never been shown. So - just to remedy that and keep my blog up to date with all that I create, I have decided to upload them today!

This French patisserie, built in 2010 and filled with pretty packaging, cakes, religieuse pastries and eclairs all made by me is not to be confused with the modern London patisserie / cake shop from 2012 (here).

Incidentally, you can still find detailed handmade French pastries at my Etsy shop. See the chart showing all the different varieties of religieuse pastries.

And this is my modern London patisserie and cake shop which I made in 2012.

Wedding Cake Feature in American Miniaturist

It's such hot and gorgeous weather here in England - even hotter than LA at the moment. My mum's out sunbathing and we're planning on a BBQ tonight. Fun when we can do these sorts of things in the UK. In LA a BBQ was just a regular meal!

Anyway, I hope everyone's enjoying the weather wherever you are.... guess it's winter in some parts of the world. This post is to show you an article I was in recently. It's American Miniaturist's June 2012 issue which came out at the start of this month, and it's all about weddings. Kind of fun for me since I am planning my own wedding these days! Hope you enjoy, and if you get your hands on the whole magazine then check out the awesome wedding cakes others artisans have made and the incredible bridal dresses....

This page shows a black and white wedding cake made by another artisan, not me, but the page includes some blurb with my name on it, so I thought I'd share it!

Pastries from Paris

Yes, it's still all about Paris whilst we're in the month of lurve! I was actually going to pop over to Paris for my birthday (which is coming in 1.5 weeks!) but instead my boyfriend is taking me to Cancun, Mexico!
But anyway, I just love, love, love Ladurée pastries, especially the 'religieuse' pastries. For those of you that are not sure what this is, it's a pastry made of two "choux pastry" pieces filled with custard. They come in different flavours and are iced with different colours.
The name 'Religieuse' actually means 'nun', because the top pastry ball is supposed to represent the nun's head and the bottom one is her body. Interesting right?!

So I've listed 11 kinds of religieuses at my online shop with lots of flavours copied from Ladurée. I made them as detailed and as realistic as I could, no molds used of course, each one made by hand in 1:12 scale.

Which is your favorite flavor? Rose, blackcurrant, chocolate, strawberry, purple, caramel, pistachio, lilac, lemon, mint or orange?! :)

Oh, and stay tuned, competition give-away coming up soon...
