My Workspace - My New Bread Line

Every once in a while I like to re-visit something I make in miniature and work to find ways to improve it. I was always pretty happy with my realistic bread range, but since I have had some large bread commissions recently I have really focused on improving the way I make it. I've visited several bakeries and used different kinds of real bread as reference and spent the past couple of days on my new bread range (which will be available at my online Hummingbird Miniatures shop soon).

I've also been hand-carving little wooden bread cutting boards which some types of breads will be displayed on.

To make room for a whole new range of bread I am putting some of my existing bread on sale. All bread is 40% off. Find it here.

Enter the coupon BAKERY40 after you click to buy but before you pay and 40% will be deducted from the total of your bill. Contact me if you'd like a reserved listing for more lots of the same style of bread (whilst stocks last).
Please remember that this coupon is valid only on breads.

150 Baguettes - what a Custom Order!

Yep - a tall order it was too!
A lovely lady from Paris needed 150 baguettes - half of them baked and half 'raw' in appearance. I started making them as soon as I got over my jet-lag after landing in England from LA. Took a few snaps for people's interest. :)

If you're ever interested in buying from me in bulk then be sure to drop me an email (contact info is here) and I'll be happy to oblige. I offer hefty discounts to people buying in bulk. :)

Here's my bread, and more bread, and more bread....

All one inch scale.

Continuing my new Tudor Range, here's one of two English Cheese Plates with cheeses from England and Wales. I'll blog about the other cheese plate later today or tomorrow. See more of the Tudor Range here.

Click the images to see the list of cheeses included... Stinking Bishop, Cheddar, Stilton... etc!
Will be available at my online shop tomorrow.

Hummingbird Bakery is now Open!

Yes... just a little later in the day than I meant to list them, but nevertheless, bread is now available at my online shop, here in the bakery section!

You'll be able to find French baguettes and French brioche as part of my Fabulously French Range, Rustic White Bread as part of my new Best of British Range and Pumpernickel bread as part of my new Glorious German Range.

Unsure what some of these world breads are? Brioche is a French specialty bread / pastry. It's made in the same basic way as bread but is richer because egg is added to the mixture. It's also glazed with egg yolk which gives it a slightly shiny finish.
... Historical fact of the day: Marie Antoinette was told that the poor had no bread and her actual response was "Let them eat brioche" not "Let them eat cake". :)

Pumpernickel bread is a type of rye bread with a fabulous chocolate colour and it's been made in Germany for hundreds of years.

My Workspace... Making Bread

Baguettes, pumpernickel (a favourite of mine), brioche and rustic white loaves... I was busy with bread for much of yesterday and glad to have finished off all 60 loaves so I can move onto finishing some prep boards over at Pixie Dust!

Click on an image for a close up and don't forget to check my online store for these new items as they'll start to be listed soon... :)

Making Croissants for Tom Bishop!

Yep, the big Dollhouse Miniature fair is looming (next month) and I'm getting ready so I'll have lots to take. I'm going to list some of it at my shop as well - for those of you that can't get out to California so easily. :)

Here's some Mixed Croissant Trays I made. They're very cute. The baking trays are lined with baking paper and filled with 6 mixed crispy croissants including 2 all butter croissants, 1 chocolate croissant, 1 iced butter croissant and 2 pain au chocolat. All in 1:12 (one inch) scale carefully handmade by me. Find them at my online shop here.

Enjoy!
