Happy Birthday... to me!

It's not until the 23rd February, but it's coming up, and I am turning 30!!! So it's a big one and I am so excited as my boyfriend is taking me on a special holiday, and I just can't wait! We were going to do something simple like Paris or Venice, but heck, it is my 30th so he's taking me somewhere a bit more exotic.... Cancun, Mexico!! It's something like a 16 hour flight for me I think, but I don't mind at all. We're going to go snorkeling and see the tropical fishes, swimming with dolphins, visiting Mayan pyramids and enjoying warm weather (can't wait as it's so freezing here in Oxfordshire!)

So, yesterday I made myself a cake (lame?!) :) And here it is! It's three tiers, lots of colour and teeny tiny candles.

Oh Deary Me!

Noooooo.... there has been quite a mishap over at Hummingbird! As I was packing all my miniatures to transport them from the US to the UK (via my hand-luggage of course) I accidentally stood a box of dozens of Pink Birthday Cakes next to a heater. A very hot heater. So, tragically, several of the birthday cakes now have tiny hair-line cracks in the frosting because of the heat exposure. The cracks are mostly at the back and not super noticeable, but they are there nonetheless.

I couldn't possibly throw them away. They're far too detailed and pretty (and hours of work goes into each one) so I'll see if anyone wants to buy one at a discount. Scroll down for discount info.

You can't really see any cracks at the front - it's mostly the back. I've put some photos down at the bottom to show the damage. Take a look and let me know what you think. :)

Happy Birthday to... Guess who?

It's not my birthday, not Hummingbird Miniatures' birthday... but it is Pixie Dust's birthday! My Workspace... Making Cakes

The Tom Bishop Miniature Fair is fast approaching, and I am working my socks off (as we Brits say), getting as much finished as possible. I will be taking my all new Birthday Cakes, which includes my updated Pink Birthday Cake, Signature Hummingbird Cake and hopefully Chocolate and Red Velvet Cakes as well if I have time.
I'll share photos of these and make them available at my shop before long as well.

Oh my goodness, has it been all about candles lately or what?! Not only did I make 100 'Old Dripping Candles' over at Pixie Dust Miniatures last week, but in the past 3 days I've made 796 coloured birthday cake candles ready for the birthday cakes I'll be selling online and at the Tom Bishop miniature show in Anaheim later this month.

Yes - you heard right. 796 candles (in 6 different colours). I'm exhausted!

Yep... I've been planning it for a while and my new Birthday Cake Range will be enormous fun and I look forward to finishing them up and sharing them with you soon.

Pink Rosebud Cake - Finally Sold!

Remember that cute Pink Rosebud Birthday Cake I made about 6 months ago? It was the prettiest cake I'd made (I thought) yet it sat in my shop and it sat in my shop and no-one bought it. Even the little teddy bear sitting next to it started to look forlorn.
But then this morning it sold! Love it when that happens - just when I'm about to give up on an item and give it away to a friend. :)

Violets and Vanilla Cake for my Birthday!

It was my birthday last week and my friend got me a slice of red velvet cake from my favourite bakery out here in LA and put 3 candles in it! It was so sweet and I loved it. But I wasn't expecting a cake this year since my mum lives in England and my friends don't bake... so I made myself a mini one.

Here's my birthday cake for this year. It's light 3-tiered sponge with raspberry filling and white sugar frosting. Decorated with a ring of sugar violets, colourful sprinkles and pink birthday candles (only 5 even though I turned 29!) There is an extra candle lying on the doily.

Handmade by me in 1:12 (one inch) scale out of polymer clay. I made 2 extra to sell on my shop as well. :)
