My Workspace...

I haven't shared photos from my workspace in ages, have I?! Obviously you can see what I make over at my Caroline blog here (and the corresponding Facebook page), but here on Hummingbird Miniatures it's been a while.

I've just spent most of my day dealing with nasty boring forms I had to fill in, so now that that's over I'm unwinding with tea and a quick blog update...

These are photos of me making Mexican food from back in May. First I created a lime cane (this is not too difficult to do, but if you hate caning you can always buy a cane). I have made a lime tutorial but still finishing it off. Soon you'll be able to find it in the Tutorials section of my online Hummingbird Miniatures shop.

Then I made various vegetables including avocados and corn, which again will be available as tutorials here very soon!

I made fajitas / burritos (which will also be available as tutorials soon) and then found a fun way to display my miniature food by creating tiny wooden or faux granite food boards. I even made each tiny bowl, and filled some with sour cream, some with guacamole, some with salsa and some with cut up limes.

Bye for now!

Seen it, liked it, got the T-Shirt!

The last ranges you heard about from me were Mexican mini food jewelry (here), some fun Mexican chips and dip (here), guacamole (here) and Mexican colourful vegetables (here)!

- I had been very inspired by Mexican food, partly because Cinco de Mayo was happening and partly because I live in LA and eat Mexican food daily! I am thrilled that my Mexican food was featured in the September and October 2015 issues of Dolls House and Miniature Scene magazine as well. What an honour! You can see the two features below, if you scroll to the end.

So, before you get completely sick of Mexican food, here's some adorable Mexican prep boards that you can purchase at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop.

Also, if you like the photography and designs, you can even buy other products which show it off, such as posters, travel mugs and tote bags! It's all here at my new Red Bubble shop! Scroll down for a glimpse at some of these products as well.

In other news, I haven't created anything new for Halloween this year, except at my Pixie Dust Miniatures blog, but I will be offering a range of Christmas miniatures this year, so stay tuned for that!

Don't miss out on anything I create by following on Instagram here.

Holy Guacamole!

Man, I just love guacamole. I love it to the extent that as a 19 year old student at Royal Holloway, University of London, I'd skip dinner and treat myself to a tub of pre-made Sainsbury's guacamole instead. It was cheaper than buying ingredients to make dinner and I loved it!

Now that I live in Southern California I probably eat avocado daily and guacamole about 4 times a week, on average.

Anyway! Here's a blog post all about guacamole and avocados, to continue my scale miniature Mexican food season....!

There will be a tutorial about making miniature 1:12 scale avocados coming very soon to my online shop, so stay tuned for that. Also, there are photos below of my new avocado jewelry, which is also available at my online shop, and don't forget, I ship all over the world!

Chips and Dip

Continuing the miniature Mexican food theme....!

Here's some tiny salsa and tortilla chips for the weekend. I spent about a day testing different small batches of salsa by playing with different mediums, different translucencies, different amounts of tiny cut up 'tomato' until I got it just about how I wanted it. The chips (crisps) were made by rolling clay out as thin as humanly possible over sandpaper and peeling them off and then adding additional pigment. ;)

Corn, avocados, peppers and Chillies!

As you saw in my last post, I am all about Mexican food at the moment and have been creating it since the beginning of the month (Cinco de Mayo - 5th of May). I have been eating out in my favourite Mexican places in LA and cooking Mexican food at home (which I do every week anyway), and getting all sorts of inspiration for this new range!

Mexican cuisine includes a lot of vegetables and bright colours, so I started by creating vegetables in miniature before I made the dishes. Take a look at some of my photos below which show some 'work in progress' photos as well.

Mexican Food Jewelry Range

I've been creating all sorts of Mexican food in 1:12 scale miniature lately, which you might have noticed if you follow me on Instagram (here)!

Alongside that, I've created lots of this miniature food as jewelry! It's super cute, and has that realism that makes it a fun talking point whenever you wear it.

Here's some snaps of the 'making of' process, and links below to the jewelry, which is all available now at my Hummingbird Miniatures online Etsy shop!
