Holy Guacamole!

Man, I just love guacamole. I love it to the extent that as a 19 year old student at Royal Holloway, University of London, I'd skip dinner and treat myself to a tub of pre-made Sainsbury's guacamole instead. It was cheaper than buying ingredients to make dinner and I loved it!

Now that I live in Southern California I probably eat avocado daily and guacamole about 4 times a week, on average.

Anyway! Here's a blog post all about guacamole and avocados, to continue my scale miniature Mexican food season....!

There will be a tutorial about making miniature 1:12 scale avocados coming very soon to my online shop, so stay tuned for that. Also, there are photos below of my new avocado jewelry, which is also available at my online shop, and don't forget, I ship all over the world!

Chips and Dip

Continuing the miniature Mexican food theme....!

Here's some tiny salsa and tortilla chips for the weekend. I spent about a day testing different small batches of salsa by playing with different mediums, different translucencies, different amounts of tiny cut up 'tomato' until I got it just about how I wanted it. The chips (crisps) were made by rolling clay out as thin as humanly possible over sandpaper and peeling them off and then adding additional pigment. ;)

Corn, avocados, peppers and Chillies!

As you saw in my last post, I am all about Mexican food at the moment and have been creating it since the beginning of the month (Cinco de Mayo - 5th of May). I have been eating out in my favourite Mexican places in LA and cooking Mexican food at home (which I do every week anyway), and getting all sorts of inspiration for this new range!

Mexican cuisine includes a lot of vegetables and bright colours, so I started by creating vegetables in miniature before I made the dishes. Take a look at some of my photos below which show some 'work in progress' photos as well.

Mexican Food Jewelry Range

I've been creating all sorts of Mexican food in 1:12 scale miniature lately, which you might have noticed if you follow me on Instagram (here)!

Alongside that, I've created lots of this miniature food as jewelry! It's super cute, and has that realism that makes it a fun talking point whenever you wear it.

Here's some snaps of the 'making of' process, and links below to the jewelry, which is all available now at my Hummingbird Miniatures online Etsy shop!

Handmade Food Jewelry

Gosh... where have I been?! Good question! I have been away from Hummingbird Miniatures for a while because I have been working on my film, which uses miniature characters and miniature sets, so you should absolutely check out the Facebook page here! I've missed you all so I'll be back here for a bit now. :)

So today is Cinco de Mayo (a huge Mexican holiday) and so I have been busily creating Mexican food in miniature, including some new mini food jewelry featuring very realistic limes. I'm late finishing these items, but check back soon as there will be an array of dollhouse miniature Mexican foods and Mexican mini food jewelry! All handmade by myself and in one inch scale, of course.

Want to learn how to make a miniature lime using polymer clay, yourself?! Stay tuned as I will release a tutorial on this very soon, and you will be able to find it in the tutorial section of my Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop here.

Here's a sneak peek at some Hummingbird Miniatures Mini Food Jewelry. Please click over and check it out, and note that much more will be coming soon...!

You can use the COUPON CODE 'LIME15' until the end of this month to get 15% off all jewelry. Just click to buy and then enter this coupon before you pay. It may only be used on the jewelry items. Thanks and happy shopping! :)
