Happy Birthday to Me!

It's my birthday tomorrow so I decided to make myself a cake! I gave up all sugar and desserts for Lent, so it doesn't matter to me that my birthday cake isn't edible. This miniature cake is made from polymer clay (what else?!) and in once inch (1:12) scale. The candles are extremely tiny, and if you read this previous blog post you'll know that my birthday candles have became far smaller, but I use a new technique which means that they are actually far less fragile and less likely to break than birthday cake candles I have made before.

The cake is a tall one - being 4 layers of vanilla sponge and pale blue icing. It's topped with confetti and of course tiny candles.

Since we're on the topic of candles, if that interests you, you might want to take a look at my realistic pillar candles which I've made for my film company (photos here) and which can of course be bought online here.

Don't miss out on new cakes which are gradually being added to the online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop here!

PS Did you know that you get free delivery if you purchase from my Hummingbird Miniatures online store on the day of your birthday? Just email me a snap of your ID that shows your date of birth and I'll grant you a birthday code for free delivery, no matter where in the world you live. The purchase must be made on your actual birthday. If you've already made a purchase on your birthday and didn't use the code then just email me and I'll send a reimbursement for shipping via PayPal.

Have a great week everyone!

NEW Black Forest Gâteau

Last week I showed you some photos of my workspace with the black forest cakes (or gâteaux) in progress. They're all finished now and listed at my online Hummingbird Miniatures Etsy shop here!

They're one inch scale and made with great attention to detail. I actually think they're some of my most detailed cakes and I was very happy with the design because they're different to any other dollhouse miniature black forest cakes I've seen. I opted not to put cream on the top or outside, which would have been a bit more traditional. My cakes have cream on the inside and chocolate icing on top. There are two kinds of cherries and some on the top have the stems.

A great center piece for your miniature shop or kitchen / dining room!

Happy Valentine's Day 2015!

Where did the last month go?! If you're ever wondering where I've disappeared to, since I don't update Hummingbird Miniatures or my other blog with the frequency I used to, it's probably because I am busy over at Tall Tales Productions, creating miniature model sets and working towards a stop-motion short film. You can keep up with this here at the blog, or here at the Facebook page.

So... here at Hummingbird Miniatures I have been creating cakes, cakes, cakes! I have made a cute new range of detailed black forest (gateaux) cakes, to my own design and also started creating a whole new range of miniature birthday cakes with candles.

Here's a glimpse into my workspace below. One inch scale black forest cakes, made by myself with huge attention to detail out of polymer clay. These miniature cakes have two kinds of cherries (dark and also maraschino (glacé) cherries on top, which are lighter and brighter, and there's cream inside the cake and chocolate frosting on the top. So they were a lot of work and will be available at the online Hummingbird Miniatures shop just as soon as we re-open. Email me if you're interested in reserving one!

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day all! x x x x
